(Please forgive me if this has already been discussed...) DH and I are thinking of moving to Murray Hill, but he says he heard someone say that PS116 no longer has a kindergarten program. Is that true? TIA.

    • They have kindergarten but there is no more TAG, it is all gen ed. BTW, I have 2 kids at 116 one in TAG and one in gen ed. I happen to like the gen ed program better and don't see much of a difference. Murray Hill is becoming more family friendly and 116 is a great school.

      • OP: Thank you so much for the clarification. (I went into panic mode when DH called.) We had wanted the TAG program but it's reassuring that someone who's been there feels the gen ed program is also good. p.s. Do you know why they dropped the TAG?

        • It could be political or it could be like ps6. PS6 had a TAG program, the principal instituted the TAG program throughout the school and TAG was obsolete there.

        • OR: It was not a great school at one time so they institued the tag program to bring in "a better socio economic class". Once the school started bringing in more affluent families the school started getting better and getting on parent's radars. There was not much difference between the tag and the gen ed, it is the same program. The school has been doing really well and they decided they did not need the tag program because the school now has a great reputation. BTW, in my sons gen ed class the parents are lawyers, doctors, Ibankers, etc.

          • OP: Thank you both for your responses. (And OR, thank you for firsthand experience. Your insight is very reassuring.)
