    • all the shutouts are on the waitlist

      • which is kind of a strange move since it violates the "you have to rank all schools in order to be guaranteed a spot" rule. But then even now it is not guaranteed if shut-outs will get a second offer.

        • i am hoping it is a just another opportunity to get a spot if things do open up somewhere.

    • OP: In other words it is not a true waitlist where, let's say little Johnny was placed at his 3rd choice, he could not go on the waitlist for his second or first choice... the waitlist is for people who didn't receive any of the schools they ranked.

        • OP again: I understand this policy but it makes no sense... so little Johnny who scored, let's say, a 99 and ranks only A and N and gets shut out. He can then move on to the waitlist and possibly get a spot at A or N or a district G&T due to attrition and folks turning down their spots?? Is this correct?

          • NP: I know they will never be this transparent as to actually disclose how they administer this wait list, but I wonder if they resort to the wait list only after the summer testing students have been placed. Or before?

          • no, according to my letter, it is only in effect for district programs, not for citywides.

            • ^^^and my guess is that you had to have ranked the district program to be considered for it later on should spots open up.

              • OP: OK, so you're saying that if little Johnny ranked A, N, and 3 district G&T's and got shut out he would then go on the waitlist for the district ones only and only the ones he listed as a choice on his original placement form. YES?

                • no, not necessarily the ones that were ranked. Any open spot in that district may be offered.

          • Kind of. Chances to get into a highly popular program, though, will be very slim.

    • they did this last year. If you only listed a few choices and didn't get placed, after the initial matching was done, you got a phone call asking if you would consider some other schools. No one got calls for the good programs, only the ones that were undersubscribed.
