  • The dude's child from http://nycgiftedandtalented.wordpress.com/ got into PS 33. First choice. No surprise there.

    • Good for him. Glad he did his research and ranked based on what he thought best for his child. I hope for his sake, though, that PS 33 isn't canceled

      • How realistic, do you think, is he going to be able to get a private meeting with the principle to get his questions asked?

        • I think probable. My understanding is that the principal isn't inaccessible...those aren't the complaints.

        • I called the school today and met the principle. She was even kind enough to conduct a tour for my son and me. They plan on opening 2 classes, but all you need is 8 students and the class will open. Last year the minimum was 10. I would be happy to have my DC in a class with 7 more children.

      • Why would g&t PS 33 be canceled? based upon post the guy indicates he's spoken to the principal a few times and principal returned phone calls. seems like a private meeting with principal would be possible. sounded pretty positive about principal from post

        • Lack of interest, like 111 and 191 last year. Already there is someone on this board turning down 33

          • yeah, one UB member turning PS33 down must be an indication of something, right?

          • It's a real drag that people STILL rank schools which they wouldn't have their kids attend. This is a real blow to the present and futures of some programs, leaves some kids sol and seems irresponsible. Unless those people are moving or got citywide, I don't get why they ranked.

            • because the doe encourages you to rank all schools.

              • but that was basically impossible this year because when I was ranking it was showing the brooklyn, queens and Tag citywides all as ditrict choices for me so that I would have HAD to rank them all to be guaranteed a spot

              • NP: You are only supposed to rank a school you would accept a seat at. If you would not accept a seat at a school, you do not rank it!

              • and they are script flippers. If eligible for district programs only-rank only the ones which you'd accept. In district which have numerous choices, only rank those you want. Some families got ZERO offers, after ranking all available. There are no guarantees except that ranking ALL, whether willing to send or not, will add to so and cancellations.

                • no family got zero offers after ranking all choice. if that happened it was a mistake.

                    • let me get this straight. The 3 you know of ranked every school they were eligible for and did not get a placement at all?

                  • Sorry, that's possibly nobody on UB, but irl there are program poor districts and in one of those, I know 2 fams w/no offer.

                    • So, there are districts where a family did not get a placement even though all schools were ranked? What district would that be? Since every eligible child is promised to have a seat this is something that should be brought up a little louder.

            • Huh? If you rank and decline it has the exact same outcome as not ranking it at all. The program will not happen unless enough kids are registered for it.

              • but there could be someone who wants the program but didn't get an offer because it was extended to someone who declined it.

        • I would definitely bet it will be cancelled, unless they can hunt around over the summer for kids with scores around 90 who didn't get placement somewhere else -- I think a lot of people who were assigned it won't take it.

        • Principals aren't making the call on cancelled programs and are often the last to be notified.
