    • Yes. It's a solid education with the extraordinary benefit of going through 8th grade. Also, there'll be lots of new 1st graders this year, so it'll be easy to make friends.

    • I would be concerned about a few things - staying with the same peer group of 75 kids for another 8 years (at least with PS9 you have a whole new peer group with MS). Also - from what I hear, there are very few UWS kids at A now. You will miss being part of a neighborhood school - playdates everywhere, birthday parties that not everyone will go to because of the commute, school events that perhaps people won't go because of the travel time. I have heard the education is fairly similar - I mean all the kids scored the exact same it's really just the ease of not applying to middle school. Also - if you have a younger sibling, do you have a solid option if they don't score at least 97? If not - are you willing to risk having them go to a not so great school for the benefit of the older sibling moving to a similar school as PS9? We are staying at local G&T for exactly that reason - if younger sib scores a 94 - guaranteed in (at least with today's rules) to the same school but would be left out to pasture of not so great zoned and would not get placed for a top G&T (like PS9) with that score. I just don't think the rewards outweigh the risks personally....

      • I have read other times on UB about Anderson not having many UWS families. That's absolutely not true. In the current K class the majority of families are UWS, several UES and upper Manhattan, a sprinkle from the Bronx and downtown, two from Blyn and a few from Queens (but a few from Queens moved during the year). UWS children will have no problems with playdates.

        • Is it different by class? Because my friend's ds is in one, and that is her one complaint, almost no playdates because his friends take the bus. But maybe the boy thing is part of it, there are not many of them to begin with.

    • Absolutely, a great education and goes through 8th grade. There are a few parents that have dc's at both seek them out and talk to them. I would say about 50% of the dc's are from the UWS so yes less of a local community.

      • Yes but that was before the random lottery - I think this years K class is much less than 50% UWS - no?

        • No I think it is still close to 50% but people move into the zone. In previous years though it was closer to 2/3

    • Do you have a younger sibling? I would be worried about moving for that aspect alone. Much lower bar to have both at the same school. If you are ok with younger sibling being at a local gen end (because if they don't score high enough for A - you won't have a chance at a local gen ed) - then fine. If not - I would think long and hard about that.
