Need some baby naming advice! DH is obsessed with the idea of naming ds #2 after his father, Stephen. My father's name is also Steven. Note the different spellings. We're considering telling both sides of the family that we're naming our son after his grandfathers, but we just flipped a coin to determine the spelling. What do you think? Do we need to choose to name him after only one of his grandfathers and go with that spelling? If not, is one spelling preferable over the other? Should we just pick a different name entirely to avoid offending anyone? TIA!

    • I'd pick a different name entirely. Stephen is the correct/original spelling, fwiw and Steven is the newer American version. Steve is short for Stephen. You could do Stefan. Ha ha. OR just pick a different name.

    • Or, you could name him "Stephen" and call him "Steve" (unless your father doesn't go by "Steve", in which case it might not be such a neat trick after all . . .)

      • Op: We would probably call him Stevie when he's young. Both grandfathers go primarily by just "Steve."

    • Do yourself a HUGE favor and avoid the name altogether. You will never live this down, someone is going to be offended.
