  • My sister lives in Brooklyn & she told me that there was a scandal about the G&T test at PS 9 there. PreK kids were prepped by teachers & then own teachers gave it to them in groups. So the parents of kids who didn't do well were pissed & they got to retake, but the kids (many apparently) who qualified for citywide didn't have to retake. So glad we live in burbs & don't have to deal with this is.

    • yeah, I am one of them. And they wonder why kids leave the school for citywides & other G&Ts. Last yr, kids were able to go to District 15 programs because not enough kids wanted PS 9. Way to turn around a school.

    • And you're outraged because? What's the scandal? The OLSAT is a test that you're supposed to prep for. The DOE gives everyone a sample test and encourages you to do it with your child. What difference does it make that the teachers did it instead?

        • And?? Are you suggesting the teachers engaged in unethical behavior, that is coached them during the exam? The only way this could be a problem is if you assume some pretty bad things about the teacher administering the test. Many preschools b/t/w have their kids take the ERB onsite with a familiar tester in a familiar room. How is that really any different?

          • because your own teacher is not supposed to administer the OLSAT

          • np. i think the answer to this is pretty obvious. a teacher who knows and likes a dc may give subtle encouragement or more leeway with an answer (assuming the teacher is filling in the bubbles) even if it's unwittingly. a dc's teacher should not administer the test.

    • someone (you?) posts almost this exact whine every three months or so. axe to grind much? and people who got into district 15 programs from D13 got into them only if the district 15 program was undersubscribed - which regularly happens in brooklyn, and has been going on for years.
