You people that can no longer afford private school have yourselves largely to blame for the public schools mess - had you been this interested in public education when you had the financial means to really effect some changes the situation would not be what it is now.

    • Bullshit. There has been baby boom in the city coupled with the the demographic trend for familes with school age kids to stay in the city. The city and DOE have been aware and have done nothing to alleviate the overcorwding (i.e. build new schools).

      • That is true - there was an article in the TImes (I think) recently about how there has been a huge upsurge in enrollment in the past three or four years and that this year just happened to the breaking point when there were few libraries/art rooms/science labs to get rid of any more.

    • interesting that you would rather blame other families who need public education, when there is very little evidence that the economy is actually driving the enrollment changes, than blame the politicians who have let this situation occur through lack of planning. have you done any research into this? if you are angry, it would make sense to learn enough about the situation to know where to direct your anger.

      • Plus, there is no enrollment change this year from last, or the year before. It is just that this year was the breaking point.
