Suburbs question. Does Rye have enough jews that my kids won't feel alienated in schools. Don't want to do Scarsdale as too intense and want better schools than Mamaroneck.

      • what kind of unhelpful response is that. i am not worried about discrimination, more just will my kid feel left out at xmas or like an oddity on yom kippur?

        • why is it silly. would you live in a part of brooklyn that is 95% indian, or orthodox jewish, or in chinatown or any other area where you were a very small minority. as a jew who grew up the only one in a christian school in the south, i think i am far better positioned than you to determine if its a "silly" question or not.

          • Is not Judaism a religion primarily? wouldn't it be possible to "pass" in a way, whereas an Indian or Asian person could not pass as ...? I would, and indeed have, lived in a town where 90% of the residents followed a different RELIGION than I did.

            • I think it is fair to say that Judaism is as much a cultural group as a religion. Jews have unique traits.

      • Why don't you just go with the flow & let your kid celebrate the commercial aspect of Christmas? Sheesh! Every kid, no matter what religion, wants to be a part of the Santa Claus, Rudolph, and presents thing. Screw religion!

        • and besides the fun things about Christmas like Santa, trees and reindeer have nothing to do with Christianity, they are old pagan traditions.

      • no way are schools great in harrison--that's why houses are relatively much cheaper than other areas
