  • Is a child born with curly or straight hair, or can straight hair go curly later? My 6 month old DD has straight hair and I am wondering if it will get curly later.

    • my dd (biracial) had straight hair for 1st year, then it got curly, really curly and still is quite curly/kinky at 7yo.

    • Like PP, mixed race DD was born with straight hair. Now past 12 months she's got a curly top.

    • My caucasian dd was born with straight hair that fell out by 4 months and by the time it came back in at a year it is curly. She has blonde ringlets.

    • My hair was poker straight until I was around 18. Has been curly since then. Same thing happened to my father.

    • Was virtually bald til 2 or 3. Just thin fuzz, barely visible. Then got very thick, very curly, frizzy hair, still like that. Same pattern with sev. kids. Was told might change after preg., get straighter. Didn't happen.

    • i was born very, very blonde with tight curls - my mom called me "mouton" or sheep. at around 4 those slowly turned a bit darker and into waves, and my hair just keeps getting darker. now it's wavy and dark brownd :\

    • My hair didn't get curly until I hit puberty (and it became really curly) and then it became much straighter after pregnancy.

    • OP - Thanks for the answers. My DD is also mixed (Indian/White). I'm the white part and have very straight hair, it sounds like I might need to learn how to take care of curly hair :).

    • My hair was curly as a child, then was stick-straight in pre-teen to early twenties. Now it's this horrible mixture of the two. It can't decide what to do.
