  • does a c-section scar really go away? i've had fibroid surgery and the scar is still there - it looks like a raised thick line.

      • Yes, blacks form keloids, but also people with American Indian ancestors and those from some areas of Russia and eastern Europe. You can't cut it out since the new area will over-scar the same way.

    • WTH? Of course it doesn't go away completely. No scar of that size ever does.

          • ScarAway makes a silicone strip especially for c-sections. It is amazing for taking down keloids and preventing keloids from forming after surgery or injuries. . I tend to get keloids so I used Scar Away after my first c-section which got a thick, stiff, rope-like and red keloid. when I went to my doctor because I still had this nasty scar a year later, she recommended ScarAway. My results were truly amazing. It became flat and a very pale pink...AND it was no longer itchy or sensitive. I had a repeat c-section and used the scaraway silicone strips right after the area healed...and I did NOT get a KELOID at all and I usually get keloids on every cut --even on things as simple as a bug bite or pimple. I am thrilled. Don't give up! Try ScarAway!

        • I think a "raised thick line" is a totally normal appearance of a scar, not keloid.

          • do you think a second cut during a c-section may improve the looks if done in the same area? could my type of scarring by due to the surgeon's way of cutting as opposed to my type of skin.

            • a cut is a cut (more to do with how you're stiched up than cut), but likely it is just the way you scar (and everyone does)

            • OR - oftentimes the second time they'll remove the first scar. So you might end up with just 1 - and better looking - scar! You sort of get another chance each time.

              • silicone scar treatment pads are available at nearly every drugstore. They are incredibly effective when used diligently as directed.

                • There used to be a few in the stores, but they have been dicontinued. They were neosporin scarsolution, Curad scar therapy pads and a band aid brand one. All have been discontinued for a while. The one that replaced them is scaraway, but I can only find it online and at some medical supply stores.

          • if the scar tissue raises up and gets thick but stays where the cut was, it is called a hypertrophic scar...if it gets raised and thickened and overflows the boundary of the original cut it is likely a keloid. Keloids are hard to get rid of. Plastic surgeons do not even like to remove them because the usually recur, so the most aggressive therapy they do is usually cortisone injections combined with using silicone sheeting to reduce it down. The only non-invasive treatment that is proven to work on these types of scars is Silicone sheeting. The the self-adhesive kind because the non-adhesive ones buckle off the keloid, especially if it is thick. Also it is nice to use a fabric-backed silicone sheet that conceals it as it reduces. Good luck! Hope this info helps!

    • Mine is essentially gone 5 years later. I do have that kind of oily, olive, bounce-back skin though.

    • ScarAway makes a silicone strip that works great for Hypertrophic (red/raised/thickened) and keloid scars. I used it because my doctor recommended it after my first c-secrion when my scar was raised, red, thick (rope-like) . I didn't think it would help on my nearly year ild scar and was truly amazed at the change. My 6" scar was thin, flat and very pale pink..barely noticeable! I have since had a repeat c-section and because I do tend to keloid (even with bug bites or pimples) my doctor told me to use the Scar Away strip after my incision area healed to help prevent the nasty scarring. I used it am so thrilled! I did not get a keloid or ANY type of discolored or raised scar. After such a short time, my scar looked like it had been healing for years and it did not hurt or itch. I wish I knew about ScarAway sooner! I cut it into small peices and use it anywhere I break my skin. It is like a miracle to me in dealing with something that used to make me feel so self-conscious all the time. Don't give up...try scaraway! :)

      • ScarAway patches help it heal up much faster so it can start to disappear in a matter of months instead of years. Also the soft fabric sheet protects the area against friction from clothes, etc, virtually eliminating the discomfort and incessant itch that many women get (I know I did!)
