    • Public or private? My dc's are in public and I feel like the teacher is the Queen, almost an honor to talk to her

    • some parents are really nuts and try to micromanage every aspect in their child's life. I am with you, OP.

      • all i want from our child's teacher is some of her work back. (maybe the odd test or assessment. something. zero. zip. zilch). it isn't too much to ask.

        • I don't think that's what OP meant. Btw, by the end of the year you usually get everything the child has done.

              • because i'm in it for the education. i don't want to control things, but with 33 kids in the class, it would be good to know (from a test or something) if my child didn't understand something thoroughly, so i could teach her myself.

                • if your dc has 33 kids in the classroom, she/he must be in an upper grade. you should have a sense of what he is doing in the classroom from other means and intervene as needed.

                        • I call bs. anyway, a 2nd grader can tell you what she is struggling with, or you can see with the homework.

                        • surely you don't think a second grader knows enough about reading and decoding to say that she is struggling with it, nor can you be defending the teacher for a normal request of sending home the work. ps. i can count, and know how many children have been in class with my child. SHEEEESH

                        • if you read with your dc daily, you should have a sense of their progress. also, if you check the homework, you have a pretty good idea about what they are learning and if your dc gets it, no? I am confused. I learn very little from classwrok sent home. I like to see it and all, but it is not all that informative.

      • they call if its chilly to remind me to dress their kids warmly, ask me to check their lunchboxes to see if they have eaten the new sandwich sent that day, want me to wipe down the classroom of any germ going around, and on and on. they need to let their kids grow up!

        • If you are a teacher at my DC's school I'd know exactly who you mean. Yes, it is sad that such parents exist.

          • not calling but e-mailing. DS's teacher checks her e-mail during her break.

            • we're forbidden from e-mailing the teacher. we can write a note or e-mail the parent coordinator.
