  • Any writers with young children on? How do you do it? Day care? Nanny? M-F? Part-time? Write in the evening?

    • I'm a novelist and write three days per week. My daughter goes to kindy during this time (9am-2.30pm) and we have a mummy nanny who comes to our house to care for our son (she brings her little girl with her who is the same age so he doesn't get bored). I know a couple novelists who write in the evening and have a friend who writes for a lot of women's mags in the evenings and during nap-time. It's almost killing her, though... Three days per week works well for me and I still manage to write a manuscript per year (either adult, or young adult, as I write both).

    • Novelist and journalist here too. The only way I can do it is to have help. I have FT, though I spend a lot of it with at least 1 of the kids when I'm not on deadline. But I need FT to cover last minute interviews, crazy writing days, meetings, etc. I think, however, as noted above, it's doable with less help, especially as the kids ease into school.
