        • why is it silly? He got me something for mother's day - considering that we are basic parents-in-waiting at this point

          • They have this thing that looks like a tool belt and it has goggles and tongs for changing diapers. I think it's called the daddy belt. Too cute. Would be great for a father-to-be.

            • thanks, that is a kind sentiment. I'm not counting my chickens - we're excited about becoming parents. Everything looks great with the baby, and we're not superstitious or crazy.

              • np: i think she meant 12 months too early...sentiment here is pretty across the board, you should wait until you actually have a child...and i'm neither superstitious nor crazy either

                • np - so there's nothing to celebrate about becoming a mother or father during a pregnancy? I absolutely disagree.

          • We got eachother cards my first pregnancy. I would just get him something small and sweet. A book he can read to the baby in utero, if he'd be into that (something with Daddy in it).

            • thanks. yes, he got me a pregnancy journal and a book on baby things to do in our neighborhood. I was thinking of a nice book for him to read to db (though we already have some of those) or maybe a "what to expect" for the first year for dads

              • dh: I read Moby Dick to my boys when they were infants. I have a cool version of the book for each of them with margin notes (things that happened as we went through it.) I figured it is about my voice, not the actual words, and that is a great book to read aloud.

                • aww, that's cute. My dh is reading MD at the moment (when he has time) I should get him to read it to dd. Although most of the time now he's reading legal briefs, so maybe he should just read those to the baby!

    • a dh: what about a wood working class. (I've suggested it here before.) Get him one on how to make something he and dc could use together or for dc. How to make a rattle/wooden sailboat/etc.

    • if he loves tech stuff, get him something for his computer. if he loves sports, get him tickets to a game or some equipment. If he's a reader, get him a magazine subscription. You're the one who knows what would work for him.

      • he's not a techie, hates sports, already reads the new yorker. whatever i buy him sits unopened in the closet for a year. that's why i am looking for something creative or sentimental.

    • how old are kids? Here's what you do- tell him to go play golf with a buddy and you and the kids go to a paint your own pottery place and make him a coffee mug and/or picture frame. They can put hand prints on it. Two gifts in one.
