      • I am confused -- why in the world would the nanny be watching tv with kids awake? That is crazy. What kind of job allows you to watch TV while on the job? No.

    • shoot, i don't even get a chance to watch tv! if a so-called "nanny" can manage that, then that lame babysitter is not paying attention to the child.

    • If DC is awake, no. Because DC are not allowed TV on her watch. And for control freak mom, please! I was fairly lenient on this front and realized that TV was on noggin for 1-2 shows every day. I had to say no, absolutely not, because I was unable to get nanny to exercise judgment on how much and what. So no, when DC are awake, there is NO TV on.

      • I was talking about the nanny watching tv herself. Obviously we watch sports on the weekend and sometimes in the evening- our baby doesn't really seem to pay much attention. How do you monitor the amount of tv that the nanny watches? I am a WOHM.

        • I can't. So that's why I asked her not to have TV on at ALL when DC are awake. FWIW, we initially started with a loose agreement that she can watch TV, but DC shouldn't watch much. I was coming home at odd times then and often came home to find the TV on and usually it was something DC wanted to see. Unfortunately it was black and white with my nanny. I had to come down with NO TV when DC are awake, to drive the point home after several 'discussions' where I tried to explain what I wanted. We also watch some TV when DC are awake during the weekend, but only for short periods, and not at the cost of taking DC out. We are also woh.

        • DC take a 2 hr nap, and 1-2 shows = 1 hr of tv a day. Apart from the fact that I don't want them to watch TV for an hour a day (you may disagree, but my kids and my rules apply), that's 3 hrs out of a 8 hr day for her to get a break. That is in addition to the classes they do which are 1 - 2 hrs each. So no, I do not think it will kill the children, but I DO think she doesn't need to show them any TV during her stay here.

    • When Nanny gets home with DCs at 5 and is prepping dinner and emptying their bags, I totally understand them watching TV. They usually watch 5-6 while she tosses in some laundry and gets dinner ready, and I'd rather have it that way then three frazzled, starving people all jumping at the bit when I walk in the door.

        • ITA. One hour a day of TV (i.e. one hour of semi-sanity for me) never killed anybody.
