Just found out I'm pregnant with #2 - it was unexpected - can anyone with more than one child tell me what it was like for them to transition from 1 to 2 - easier than the first time round or harder?

    • sorry, it was harder. not emotionally, since I was already a mom it was like, ok another kid. but physically I thought it was a lot more work. My #2 was a surprise also, and they were only 20 mos apart. If I could have chosen I would have had more of a gap. But yeah, it was quite an adjustment for me. There was just always so much to do. much easier now that they are 2 and 3.5. Of course, now they fight and beat each other up.

    • I am pregnant with #2 and everyone keeps telling me how 1 to 2 is an easier transition that 0 to 1, since you're already home more, getting up early, etc. Not to mention in my case I have a great nanny that will be there- not a luxury I had with #1. I am thinking that it has to help!

    • Easier in some ways - not as nervous abut the birth, about taking care of newborn, about anything. Not as much a shock to your system because you're already a parent. Harder in others - no free time unless they happen to nap at exactly the same time, two competing pulls on your attention, and you're starting without a full battery so tends to be more exhausting. But if your kids get along having two is wonderful. Mine are 3 and 5 and adore each other. I recommend the books by Joanna Cole and Maxie Chambliss, "I'm a big sister" or "I'm a big brother."
