  • NYC restaurants with notoriously obnoxious wait staff? I will have to add Le Cirque to the list.

      • Went there for IL's 50th in the fall. So disappointing. DH had called ahead, and I think maybe even been there, and agreed on set menu, specific wines to be served (esp. b/d IL's have friends who will order a million dollars worth of stuff with no regard for the fact that they are zillionaires and we are not). Get there and menus are handed out, had to chase down someone to find the wine order, etc. I'd expect a place of this cost and reputation to be able to get a basic order correct. Didn't really love the food, either.

        • or: agree about the food. also found the waitstaff to be overbearing in a very intrusive, unhelpful way. always on top of you, but not actually doing anything useful.

    • Tavern on the Green. Ugh. Such snotty service and my poor grandmother had made an effort to make it a special night for my uncle's birthday!

    • Mandarin Oriental, ignored for 30mins after being seated. Terrible service then ran after us when we left a small tip asking why

      • Did you tell them why? What was reaction. I think you did the right thing, fwiw. I'm a good tipper for good service, but I've actually stiffed a waitress once for terrible service. (Rudeness, ignoring us, and total desertion.)

        • yes and they told us we were wrong and how much we should tip (we are British but have been here 15years, so they tried it on- even added 20% service charge - which we crossed out)
