How long did it take you to become pregnant when you started trying? I think it's actually a LOT harder than we are led to believe and I want a realistic picture of what to expect (going to start next cycle).
41 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]1st month of trying for two pregnancies so far (1 DD at 31 and in month 4 of pregnancy #2 at 35). Sorry that's not what you wanted to hear, but I think it's not that unusual for people who do not have fertility problems.

I TTC at 37yo and got pregnant right away, but proceeded to have 3 m/c. So my issue was secondary infertility.

Started trying when I was 30. Didn't expect any problems, but we tried naturally for 6 months and then decided to go to an RE, who did 2 rounds of IUI. One was successful, but resulted in a very early miscarriage. Took a 5-month break from RE (really emotional), then started IUI with Clomid. Clomid caused a bad ovarian cyst, so I had to take another break. Then we decided to move on to IVF (turned out I had low ovarian reserves)...first round was successful, but resulted in missed miscarriage (D&C) at 10 weeks. Now 19 weeks (today!) pg with twins. I think it's a lot harder for a lot more women than we realize, and you can't expect it to be easy. I hope it is for you, and I know women for whom it has, but you have to know that it can take a long time.
[ Reply | Options ]Is it just me or have a lot of you waited a LONG time to start a family? Not trying to flame, but it could obviously be a factor in all the mishaps.

Most of the people who reply to these posts are the ones who want to brag about how easy it was for them- aren't I fertile! after one year of trying, prior to age 35, 85% of people are pregnant. In other words, if 100 people are trying it will take a year for 85 of them to get pregnant. That tells you it takes more than a month or two for most people.
[ Reply | Options ]That statistic just tells you that 85% get pregnant within a year. It doesn't mean that it takes 85% a year to get pregnant! It doesn't say anything about how many of those people were pregnant after just one month, and how many took the full year. It took us about 3 months each for our first two kids (I was 33 and 35, and closer to 6 months for the third (at 37). I was still breastfeeding while we conceived the second, but it didn't seem to affect things too much.

Started period on June 2 of '01 (I had a party that night). Had sex on June 21 (dh was in b school and had an interview the next day). Only sex that month--was planning to ttc in a month or so. Pg at 32. Nearly as easy at 36, but mc. Then conceived after one cycle. Natural triplets, but two reabsorbed and ended up with one db Now 40 and will ttc #3 soon. Hoping it won't take longer that a few months.
[ Reply | Options ]DB #1 - 2 full years including Clomid and an operation. Finally got pg after going on holdiay and basically giving up, but did notice just before that I had 2 regular cycles of 28 days each, previously they had been very irregular. DB#2 - first month of unprotected sex, also did have regular cycles. GL!
