    • great job for a woman who wants to have a family since there are so many opportunities for flexible hrs and good income. Obviously fine for a man, too, but as a woman who majored in science, I wish I'd gone that direction instead of straight grad school in chem

        • OMG! It took me 6.5 yrs to get a PhD and I was busy non-stop. It's also hard to drop something and go home at 5pm in a wet lab. I did a 2 yr postdoc and wasn't sure where to go from there but at that point I was pg. Now I am home with 13 mos ds and loving it, but I am thinking about doing something completely different when I go back to work. Unless you absolutely love what you are researching (I liked my topics but not loved them) I wouldn't bother with a PhD.

          • ^^ If I could do it over again knowing that I wanted to have flexibility I would choose from a masters or pharmacy degree or go for speech pathology, pediatric phys therapy/occupational therapy. Of course, I haven't done any of those things so I can't speak for how easy/hard it is to juggle these careers and a family. GL!

    • Great career. If you are wanting to work in a retail pharmacy (assuming you aren't working now) it might be worth it to get certified as a pharmacy technician and work at one to see what the day to day is like. Of course there are other avenues, for example nuclear pharmacy if you can handle the hours and exposure to radiation (minimal exposure), you could also go into research or work in a hospital. From what I've heard, hospital is better than retail just because dealing with customers is a pain in the ass (and worse when they are sick). But I'm not sure what the pay difference is.

          • or: it was very hard to get through a PhD program with kids at home. And now I'm stuck in research that isn't as interesting as I'd hoped. I do wish I'd gone to pharmacy school, but if I could afford to make less money now, I'd teach
