Am I being selfish? Currently 38w4d pregnant with #2. I have been miserable for the last 2 weeks. Can't sleep at night, terrible lower back pain, constant need to go poop yet nothing happens, massive heart burn and nausea. Have a doctor's appointment in an hour and thinking of begging her to induce me sometime soon. I can't do this anymore!

      • But why?!?! I hear of women scheduling inducements at 37 weeks right at the beginning of a pregnancy.

        • Because it is not what is best for the baby.

          • Ask the doctor, what can it hurt. If she says it's a bad idea, don't do it. Perhaps she can do an amnio to see if the lungs are fully developed.

    • No, she won't, but I was you with #2. Take Zantac and ask for a serious laxative (not just a stool softener). Taking care of the digestive stuff will make the other problems more bearable.

        • And if not, it will make the poop come. Actually, I would be careful with this / do some research. I don't think even midwife, natural-birth types necessarily support the use of castor oil.

    • Yes, I think you are. I've been there, and know you are probably uncomfortable, but you should do what is best for the baby, unless your health is seriously an issue. If you are constipated, take a laxative, get a massage, ask for some help for heartburn. None of these issues is life-threatening!

    • Hope you have pre-eclampsia and then she'll induce you.

    • Definitely might induce is the baby is large. This happened to me. Induced 2 wks early with no problems and easy labor.

      • That happened to a friend of mine too, but they scheduled it at the beginning. Since #1 was so big they induced two weeks early with #2

    • Yes. Suck it up. The baby could use the extra time.

      • ^ Not to mention, you'll just be trading one misery for another. It's not as if the baby's out and all of a sudden you're carefree and sleeping again.

    • Yes, you are being selfish. Believe me, I know how miserable you feel. I was just like you! But outcomes for babies that come even a little bit early are worse. Doctors are really getting slammed right now for inducing early in response to mothers' requests or their own scheduling preferences. I seriously doubt she will do this. But if she would--she would not be doing you or the baby any favors!

    • I went 42 weeks. I actually felt better around 40 weeks then I did at 38-40 weeks, psychologically anyway. I was resigned to baby taking her time and not so anxious to have her out.

    • OP: Just came back from OB. Decided not to ask, just hope it happens soon! After my exam she said it's unlikely that I'll make it to my next appointment, which is a week from today! Thank goodness.
