    • First try at 32. Only had sex once that month, so literally first try. First try at 36, but mc. Waited one cycle and got pg again first try.

        • I was 40. I waited too long to go see an RE imo. He told me to go straight to IVF. I was upset, but decided to proceed. The night before we were going to begin the shots I took a pg test and was pg. Really crazy after trying for a year.

        • Yes, though I was probably too young/self centered, but I was married and I was/am a good mom to her. We're doing much better with the younger one, though (same dh).

          • I had one DS natural conception at 34, but have been trying for #2 for over a year. Was successful with a single embryo transfer, but terminated at 14-weeks due to problems. Now afraid to do IVF again so will try naturally for a while.

          • np: don't feel that way, you weren't selfish at all, you simply had other goals to accomplish before dc, I'm sure that are days that you feel happy and glad to have waited for mr right to start a family. #2 will come soon...

          • Wow. I would NEVER say that had I Waited. I didn't wait, fwiw and there is a compromise either way. Sure I had an easier time getting pg, but definitely need to rush back to work and get a bottom of the barrel nanny to take care of dc. With our incomes and grad school loans there is NO WAY to afford what I'd call decent amenities like a 3br (ds and dd), on the books nanny, any kind of daycare at all, classes (ballet, music etc), flex work hours for mom/dad. Not unless I married a rich guy significantly older than me, that is ;-)

          • how are you being punished? you educated yourself, had/have a career, married mr. right, and have a child. sounds like you did everything right. you mayhave had problems getting preg at any age. count your blessings instead of beating yourself up. btw, i have a similar story of grad school, work and then marrying mr. right at 35. 2mcs, then 1st dc by ivf. I'm happy as a calm, whereas friends who married young are ALL having (or had) affairs.

      • Same here basically, but I am 35 second time around, again first try. I did use a basic chart on the internet to figure out the best days to do it (which started a little earlier than I would have assumed), but we didn't do it every day or even every other day, I did not chart, etc.

    • With these polls I find it interesting that there are a lot of "First tries" and a lot of "A year or more, required intervention". There does not seem to be as many 3,4 or 7 months replies, at least with women primarily in their 30s.

        • It was just a few months ago - I'm 36, but they consider me to be 37 since that's what I would have been when the baby would have been born. It was such a shock! I had a lot of embryo's to chose from and they only transfered ONE and it had Downs Syndrome. I have seven frozen ones that I'm a little afraid of, even though I've been told that it happening again would be like being struck by lightening twice...
