My nanny works 25 hrs/week. A couple of questions: If we go out of town should we still pay her for the days anyway? She's at the dentist today and won't be here until 2. Shld we pay her for the full day? Should she take it as a 1/2 sick day?

    • Did you talk about this at all before she started? What are her hours? Is it five hours a day five days a week = 25 hours or something else? Does she have a regular schedule?

      • She works two long days and one short day (until 2:30).

    • Pay her for the time you are away. She keeps that time for you. Or, have her take vacation when you do. Don't split hairs about the dentist. Pay - it is not so much and it goes a long way.

      • I agree with paying her when you are away. As for the dentist, I agree with the poster above IF she is willing to be similarly flexible with you. My nanny doesn't have a set number of personal days or sick days -- if she needs time off, we give it to her. But she is similarly flexible with me -- if I need her to stay late or come in early on occassion, we don't pay extra. The hours don't work out perfectly (she take a lot more time off than she stays late or comes in early) but it's a mutually respectful relationship.

        • I'm inclined to do that. It's just so much money for days that she isn't here sometimes it feels like too much for someone who isn't full time (although she is very dedicated to us and us to her).
