Do you 'enjoy' spending time with your kids?
- Yes, most of the time we really have fun together
- Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's really dull and aggravating
- Honestly most of the time it's not fun at all, but it's not supposed to be fun
- I really don't enjoy it at all, and wish I could spend less time with them

Brooklyn Friends does not allow strollers in the elevators any more, calling it a safety issue. I can see the crowding issue, but safety? Why would strollers in an elevator be unsafe? Not so bad for families with only preschoolers (2nd floor), but if you have an infant and a dc in K, you need to go to the 7th floor. God help you if you have twins under 3 and a child in K. I don't see how this can be a safety issue. Anyone ever heard of strollers not being allowed on a preschool or lower school elevator?

5 floors, and parents and nannies manage ok. People who have newborns likely to be asleep at drop off/pick up times have worked out buddy system with someone who will watch their little one downstairs while they pick up or drop off their other child so they don't have to wake up the baby to carry him/her upstairs. Probably not ideal but doable.
[ Reply | More ]the buddy system is the only thing that works. Parents are already using the buddy system for car pickups since parking there is a mess too. There are areas you are SUPPOSED to be able to park (with sign in car) but sometimes the police ticket, and sometimes the tow trucks show up as well. The signs say "no standing" or some equivalent.

No strollers at the 92Y. You can park in the lobby or fold and carry up if you must. Just too hectic and trafficky. Unless a newborn or sleeping child, who needs 'em to go upstairs anyway?

BFS seems to have more than its share of larger families where there are children in K or 1 (on high floors 6 or 7) but one or more very young sibs. I wonder if they really considered the impact on such families. I wonder what is the safety issue exactly. I think it would help with PR if they would spell it out. They don't seem to care much about PR in general.
[ Reply | More ]one interesting issue at BFS is there seems to be little way for parents to give feedback on anything. I think the school would do well to send out some kind of survey or something to see what PARENTS think is working well or not working within the school. Not that they need to be guided by that, but at least they should know.

No strollers at JCC. It's a big pain when your younger kid is napping in the stroller. But the buddy system generally works fine.
[ Reply | More ]buddy system does not necessarily work at BFS if one picks up a child from afterschool program. Not everyone is there at the same time. when picking up from AS the elevators are usually empty or nearly empty. Can't see why a sleeping baby needs to yanked from stroller (woken up) just for a parent to go to the 7th floor for pickup. Maybe they should restrict the no stroller time to "rush hour" since this is when the buddy system works (there are lots of people picking up then). Biggest need at BFS: just SOME method for parents to give feedback (but the feedback would have to be welcome, and that may be the real problem.....).
