  • 1 yr old ds is having random excema breakouts. has anyone found it to be diet related? i'm considering putting him on soy milk instead. i've been to dermo and they keep just giving me cloderm (lotion) to put on the areas. i'd rather find the problem. any advice? thanks.

    • I never looked into dietary causes of excema, however, I read that most kids outgrow it by the age of 5. That was the case with my dd; it totally disappeared by 5 and, until then, she had it pretty bad on the back of her legs. Coincidentally (or not?) she developed molluscum in the same area as the excema and that took multiple trips to the dermatologist to resolve.

    • it's not always diet related and I wouldn't just suspect milk. It can be a million things. Some kids just have small boughts (sp?) of chronic excema.

    • In our case, it's hereditary. Dr. "prescribed" Cetaphil in the tub twice a day. Dd has excema all over and it's moderately severe and the Cetaphil takes care of it. gl.

    • Dd's pediatrician took dd off of milk because she said it was causing her excema. She only seems mildly allergic but had to be a lactose free formula when she was an infant. Ever since we took milk away (although she can have cheese, yogurt) her excema has gone down considerably.

    • Limit baths as much as possible; use Cetaphil instead of soap; lots of moisturizer and ointments on the ezcema spots.

    • dd is 10 mo and has mild eczema on her cheeks and around mouth, i'm sure it has to do with food, and am trying to figure out what food. she is on ZERO dairy and wheat and soy, as am i since she is still nursing. so don't assume dairy for your ds.
