    • www.firstsigns.org. Lack of immitation, poor eye contact, lack of fear of strangers, staring spells, unresponsive to name, no words, no babbling, no interest in joint-attention (lack of pointing to get you engaged in child's world).

      • in my experience the lack of pointing is a big one, but pointing can take until 18 months, although in a typical child it is usually there in some form sooner. Does child get it when you point, or does child look at your finger? For example, if you are in a park and an airplane or helicopter is in the sky and you point, does child look where you are pointing? Look up the CHAT , checklist for autism in toddlers. You can apply the chat at age 18 months but can start getting an idea a little before then. GL.
