    • I was happy with Neal Rosenberg. Many people are happy with Regina Skyer. Gary Mayerson tends to take on the most controversial cases, but charges a premium. The cost depends upon hwether you go to impartial hearing or beyond and what you want done. A good budget without any info on your case would be 2500-5000. Othe names people like but are not as well known include Lauren Baum, Michelle Kule-Korgood (sp?).

    • I use Skyer and just about everyone else I know does too. I have more than one friend who used Rosenberg who ended up switching after not getting the attention they needed and/or just losing. Hear very good things about Lauren Baum.

        • My favorite is Mel Hoffman. I used to use Neal, but he can be a jerk. Mel is a sole practitioner which is great because he always answers your questions. He is prompt, efficient, friendly (well mannered, unlike Neal). He files quickly (meaning you get your money back quickly) and he always knows exactly where you stand. I really have loved working with him the last 5 or 6 years.

    • Please enlighten me. I'm pretty sure that a pecial ed lawyer is not one who got admitted to the bar through some mainstreaming initiative. And I gather that they fight DOE to get better treatment for DC. In what forums? What's the big hurdle? TIA

      • In NYC, parents who are denied a free and appropriate public education (guaranteed through IDEA) send their children to a variety of private special education schools. In order to secure funding for those schools under IDEA, they generally use a lawyer who specializes in this area.
