  • Can you imagine life without a credit card? We are all taking to the cleaners by the banks and the limit cuts, interest and fee hikes, etc. And since there is almost zero oversight I think we should all start moving away from using plastic. Can it be done?

    • I have never had a blance on a credit card. I use them instead of carrying cash around - but I'm already living what you describe.

    • Um, how about we use credit cards but pay off the balance each month?

      • I'm trying to pay off my high interest cc. 10k, i can't wait. 28% interest, I called the cc company but they won't lower. I don't use my cc anymore, just my debit card.

      • ITA -- we do that, but I am still frustrated at paying $90/year for the annual fee and something like $35 anytime we are even 1 day late in payment.

        • I hate paying annual fees, so I don't bother. I sign up for cc's with no annual fees or better yet, ones that give you cash back. Usually if I am accidentally late, I can call and get it waived. BofA is the one credit card company I had trouble with (pregnancy brains) and I ended up cancelling as a result.

        • You have have them direct debit the payment so you don't have to forget.

      • yes, but you would still support those business practices. Every time you use the card the merchant pays the CC companies a fee for the transaction.

    • I heard that there are going to be some consumer protection laws against credit cards that will take effect next year so the credit card companies are busy gouging us this year while they still can.

    • I would hate no credit cards. We pay in full every month, but this is how I get airmile & hotel points for vacations. It's the best!
