        • We shell out about 40K and sister pays about 30K. Both kids are in private school and attend a bus camp. Ours is just more "label."

    • Sounds about what it costs, given you don't have an absurdly high income

        • Of course it is. You know that and are just asking for validation hoping we'll all say "nah. It's fine." Well it is NOT fine. It's messed up.

          • np: but what other option does she have? our gross income is less than $100k and we have to pay around 20% for childcare. there are no cheaper options, period.

    • I just went through this and realized it's about 66% of my net income. Pretty depressing as I'd like to be home with the kids.

    • School is mandatory, camp is not. We send DCs to private school, but they're home with me all summer.

      • op: great but we both work. Having dc home 3 days per week, at most, is a possibility.

    • That's us. Childcare alone is about 15-20% of our income. Rent is another 25%.

        • well--sounds like you may have dc in a private school and pay for a private nanny, which is nice for you--pretty cushy. I work ft, no nanny, do pickup-dropoff-but there would be a private school if I pay this much.
