    • NYC, NYC, 'cause it's the best city in the world (don't flame, I've done a fair amount of travelling before coming to this conclusion).

      • If a person had a fairly good childhood, he or she often thinks that the best place to live is where they grew up (Don't flame, I have lived in 6 different cities in two different countries). I like where I live now, but there is nothing like going "home" even though I have not lived there in 15 years.

        • NP. I'm sure what you say is true for many people, but I grew up in LA and had a great childhood, but live in NYC now and still think its the best city in the world (with London being a v. close second). I don't have that same sense of going 'home' that you seem to - sure I love seeing family & friends, but LA just does not compare to NYC imo. Think I'm just an east coast gal at heart.

    • Grew up in the South. Moving west to raise kids because I hate what NYC has become since I moved here 20 years ago and the NY burbs are not an option for me--I HATE them.

    • very small town; new york city - great access to everything, like being able to walk places, need a lot of activity going on around me, our jobs are here; want my kids to be well-rounded and exposed to a wide variety of experiences.

    • DC, then a very small town in Southern California. Currently in NY, but will move to DC or Paris in the next few years. Don't want to raise DCs in NYC

    • suburban CT (but not $$$), NYC. I can't imagine raising a dc anywhere else...culture, diversity, opportunities all are amazing, plus the day-to-day is wonderful...walk out your door and see and meet great people, parks, food, being able to walk instead of drive

    • DH and I both grew up in NYC and just moved to Austin because we got priced out. We will have the benefits of visiting each summer, but none of the hassles of shlepping around town with strollers, taking the subway all over the place, private schools, and tons of yuppies whose values are totally skewed.

      • Do you like Austin? How are the schools? Do you both work? Thinking of moving out of the area and this is one of the cities on our "hit" list

    • DC burbs, DC burbs (both MD side). Still here b/c this is where my fiance was when I finished grad school and it's the best place for my field (public policy). I'd kill to leave and go anywhere less self-obsessed, but doubt we ever will.

    • Philadelphia & Seattle - moved back to Seattle 2-years ago after 7-years in NYC because DH wanted to "try something new". He'd never lived anywhere outside the eastern seaboard. I wanted to move eventually, but not until DS turned 5.

    • San Francisco, NYC (Manhattan) because I really love New York. I miss my family but don't miss that damp, gray fog. Ugh.
