  • Looking to buy an apt in manhattan. found an amazing one that is great in all ways except that it's on the second floor of a high rise. Will this be terrible in terms of resale value and feeling that i'm on street level?

    • Second floor could be a handicap (had 2d floor apt. and sold it but for less than others in the "line."). Does it get any light? If so, and you love apt. and that is what you can afford and where you want to live, go for it!

    • Keep looking! Btdt and it makes a TON of difference being low & street side. When db was born I thought I would absolutely lose it with the noise. And it isn't just regular traffic noise either. Horns, sirens, loud assholes talking & laughing late on Friday/Saturday nights, etc. Also look for any clubs or bars around that play music.

      • ^^ oh, and one of the worst is in the winter after a snowstorm. If it is a street rather than an avenue that doesn't get plowed as thoroughly and then you get ice, cars will spin and spin and spin their tires right outside your window. I LITERALLY made my dh go out with bags of salt and melt the ice in front of our windows (something I learned from another overtired low floor resident with a db!)
