We're coming to NYC for the last week in May to spend time with my in-laws. Can you gals give me some suggestions for a 2-3 day mid-week vacation? Just me, my DH, and 2.5-year old son. My DH is suggesting the Jersey shore, but I'm not so sure. TIA.

    • Why do you need to go away from NYC if you're just coming here for a week? Maybe take a day trip to the bronx zoo or the aquarium

      • Honestly, because I don't want to spend an entire week cooped up in a 2-bedroom pied a terre with my in-laws, nor do I want to be bored out of my mind at their house in CT. They come out west to visit us monthly, so I feel no need to maximize their time with my DS. That being said, I'm really tired of having to spend all of my vacation time with the in-laws, so I want a little mid-week break.

        • So why don't you leave ds with in-laws for a nght or 2 and you and dh stay in a hotel or something in NYC and go out to shows/dinners? I would!!

        • Ok, I understand. Your OP just made it sound like you were coming for a visit with them. I wouldn't advise going away - why don't you stay at their house in CT alone, or in the apartment alone for a few days, and take advantage of the city?

          • If we're in NYC or in CT, we're totally smothered by them the entire time, so we need to get away somewhere. What about the Berkshires? Would that be good for a 2.5 year old?

            • How about Rhinebeck or another hudson valley town - take the train (tons of fun for a 2.5yo)

            • np: How do you get credit for "spending time with your in-laws" when you take off for a couple of days? Lol. I'd love to know your secret.

              • Actually, my post read wrong. We're coming for a wedding, not to specifically spend time with them. And then in a further response, I wrote that they visit us out west monthly and so I don't feel a need to maximize DS's time with them.

    • If NYC is your destination it seems strange to go to the Jersey Shore- or leave the city at all for that matter. There's so much to do here. Pick up a New Yorker mag.

      • My DH is from NYC and so we're back a few times a year. Not to mention, I lived there for seven years as well. I just want to know where's a good place to take a 2.5 year old for a couple of days.

        • if you know NYC so well, and dh grew up here, shouldn't you know? FWIW, NYC is a great place for a 2.5 yo for a couple of days- so many museums, zoos, parks

          • See above response about needing a break from the in-laws. I know NYC very well, what I'm asking is for a good destination with a 2.5 year old.

      • I'm well aware of things to do in the city - what I'm asking for is where is a good place to go with a DC outside of the city.
