Do you 'enjoy' spending time with your kids?
- Yes, most of the time we really have fun together
- Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's really dull and aggravating
- Honestly most of the time it's not fun at all, but it's not supposed to be fun
- I really don't enjoy it at all, and wish I could spend less time with them

none. I was never particularly fond of playdates to begin with and am grateful for Kindergarten because now I believe they are even more unnecessary
[ Reply | More ]np That's how I feel. Dc's K teacher went on and on and on about how the kids should be having playdates, though. Really annoying.
[ Reply | More ]Huh? Why? The kids see each other in the classroom, during recess, etc. etc. 5 times a week for more than six hours. That is still not enough?
[ Reply | More ]sometimes when teachers say this it is to gently encourage parents of dcs having some socialization issues to create more one-on-one situations and also to maybe observe what they themselves observe in class. but i think in general pre-k and k teachers push the whole playdate concept.
[ Reply | More ]np: its not the same as having uninterrupted one on one time with your friend. i don't think its alwasy hugely important, but it is a different thing than being in school.

one or two. usually DC comes out at the end of the day and asks to have a playdate that afternoon. very few are pre-arranged. classes 2x a week after school and sports on the weekend (soccer & swimming).
[ Reply | More ]None. Commutes to a citywide school. This is the biggest (and only) drawback of choosing a citywide that involves a commute.

i am poster with only above and this was a consideration for us. we didn't get into a citywide but we passed on a spot at one of the top districtwides because the commute would have been hell. luckily, we have a great zoned school. still, it was hard to turn down
[ Reply | More ]Well, if you have a great zoned school, then it's not THAT hard. Our zoned school is questionable. It's not horrible, but it is facing some very serious challenges.
[ Reply | More ]no, i realize we're lucky. it's just some people think we were nuts to turn down lab.

We took Lab instead of 3. Had my doubts for a little bit, just because the commute is pretty intense for her, and because I miss walking her to school. But Lab is great, really special. I guess either decision would have been good, she would have been fine at 3 too. Are you at 3 or 41?

Yes my dc too. Her ride is an hour. We have a nice long restful period after she gets off the bus and before dinner, I am with her two days/week after school and it's a nice time to hang out together. And we still see preschool friends on the weekends, and of course the weekend birthday party is a constant.

1-3. goes to a great zoned public (brooklyn) where everyone lives nearby. it's a big plus for DC to be able to easily have a friend over or go over to a friend's place after school. right now Dc and friend are in the backyard drawing with chalk and making a "birdhouse" with some bricks and twigs. DC also does classes/afterschool on other days.
