may have a job offer in carlsbad, CA. anyone familiar with schools and life in general?, signed single mom of a 5 yo ds.
5 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]I just want to say I love Carlsbad! But I can't comment about life out there. I ran several Forbes business conferences out there. The weather is divine and can honestly feel my blood pressure go down when I step off the plane. What I can tell you is that the population is a bit older. Lots of retirees and very upper middle class (though I don't know how Carlsbad has been affected by the recession). You'll see A LOT of golf playing and tennis playing even in the residential areas, not just the hospitality/hotel areas.
[ Reply | Options ]OP: it seems like a great place for a 5 yr old boy and my dad is one hour away. i looked up schools and it seems like avira hills is best school for elementary but after that seems sketchitty sketch. lots of drugs and gang violence and so close to mexico. only one tremendous high school. seems much safer to be in nyc when kids are older. as far as older population, maybe i'll meet a wealthy older guy! ;)

my family is from North County...The schools in Carlsbad are hit or miss, so pick your zoned school carefully. Lovely weather. Lots to do with kids. Check out the tulip field (although it is shrinking). Fairly good shopping (outlet mall in Carlsbad) plus lots of strip malls. Everything you need is very easy to get, and really fun kid stuff is a short car trip away.
