  • All of you rich folks complaining about tax increases need to get some perspective. You sound so ridiculous complaining about how hard it is to get by on $250k.

    • It's not just about "getting by." Of course I will not be homeless on that salary. But I work hard to make that much so I can do MORE than just get by - so that I can afford afford a nice home, nice schools for dc's, and nice luxuries

      • Oh please. I challenge you to tell me your income and how much MORE in taxes you will pay. (And, by the way, rich people paid that 8 years ago before Bush reduced taxes. They weren't crying their eyes out saying woe is me). What "luxury" will you have to cut out? You should be ashamed of feeling so entitled, more so than any American in previous generations.

      • OP: Actually, I do, I have two dcs and work full-time. The point is that we CHOOSE to live in NYC, where there tons of benefits, cultural and otherwise that we have access to. Whether you can afford "luxuries" or not, the wealthy have not been paying their fair share of taxes in this country and that is finally changing.

      • I make more than $250K and don't consider myself "rich", but I'm fully aware that I'm A LOT better off than A LOT of other people. And don't appreciate the "woe is me, I work so much harder than the unwashed masses" posters making everyone else look bad.

        • As one of the complainers, I am perfectly willing to give up more money in taxes if it is actually going to help the situation. Based on what I've seen and heard so far, I don't believe this is the case. I see useless projects being started, government becoming more bloated, and corrupt and inefficient corporations being bailed out. If I am giving up more money in taxes I DO retain the right to judge where it is going.

          • I think any taxpayer has the right to judge where the $$$ are going, and I think questioning the public policies underlying the tax increases is totally valid. But that's big picture stuff and very different than a lot of the narrow, self-interested view of many here.

        • It doesn't matter whether you consider yourself rich or not -- you are in the top percentile of income earners in the country and my point is just that there is way too much "woe is me" on this board from people who clearly have never really wanted for anything meaningful in their lives.

          • Um, yeah, that's what I was saying. Wouldn't you rather argue with people that actually disagree with you?

    • I'm not complaining and I do make more than $250K, but people DO have the right to complain. Perspective or not, everyone's situation is different. If you make a $100K you live differently from someone who makes $250k. It pinches anyone who has to contribute more. There are people in the world who live well on $10k a year. So if you want perspective, really, you should talk to them. But thats not reasonable, because we all have different expectations. Reduction in means is also difficult, no matter who you are.

      • it's so pathetic to hear about people giving up "treats" when millions of children lack healthcare.

            • np: that's such a stupid comeback. Complaining about losing "treats" has no comparison to the various things children lack in different countries.

            • Let me help you with facts. Out of 47 million without healthcare 17 qualify for Medicaid, about 17 make over 50,000.00 but choose not to buy it. The rest allmost entirely illegal aliens. You qualify to be counted as uninsured if you lucke insurance for more than a week in a past 2 years. Personally when Obama raises my taxes, I will fire as many employees as needed to make up for my income. That way I will not have to pay for their healthcare twice.

              • If you can "fire" employees on a whim, then they aren't doing anything for you, so you are running a pretty poor company. Or, that means you will take on that extra work yourself. So you will keep your high income at the expense of working more. Which is totally appropriate.

              • I question your "facts" but in addition to the problem of those that are uninsured, Americans who are insured pay more $$ every year for less coverage and that's a huge drain on our society. It would have cost me twice as much this year than last year to maintain the same level of coverage (my employer reduced the amount of its contribution). Now I have crappy high-deductible coverage that is basically like having no coverage at all (yet I pay almost $400 a month for it).
