Does anyone use earmuffs / ear plugs on their baby to protect their baby's hearing? If so, recommendations? Have a 2 month old, and the jackhammering/construction outside of our apartment, along with the screeching brakes of buses, is driving me batty.

          • Actually, it's okay inside our apartment (we live inside a high-rise). It's just hard to avoid when we walk outside with the stroller.

    • I have 3 kids..and am in Manhattan. Your dc ears are ok outside. The dc needs to get used to sound. If the sound is too much then avoid walking in front of a jackhammer. I was born and raised here and my hearing is fine

      • 1st time parent. Am worried DB might inherit my hearing, which wasn't always great but definitely got worse since moving to NYC.

        • 1. yes, they would look totally ridiculous. 2. why would you want to deprive your child of hearing? half the point of going outside is the stimulation, the busyness, the things to see and hear.

          • I figure he'd still get stimulation (just in muffled form), and would take them off in quiet areas like Central Park.

      • but the baby isn't wakign from the noise. the baby seems fine. it's just the mom that's worried. a white noise machine would be useful if the baby was waking up from loud or sudden noises.

    • My recommendation is for mom to take a chill pill.
