  • Anyone else very nervous about dc getting into preschool? The only places we had stellar playdates are schools that have, like, one opening for next year. All other playdates dc wasn't feeling well or I didn't like the school.

    • I am, yes. We applied almost entirely to places attached to ongoing because I thought I couldn't bear to go through the whole process again in 2 years. Regretting that now and hoping he just has a place to go next year.

      • op: I wish I had done that. I've vowed to move before ds applies to K. Can't take this again, esp considering how much worse the K appl process is. (That and I don't want to live in a city where you have to go through hell to get your child into private school.)

        • well, we're not moving, so I figured this was it. Don't know what I'll do if he doesn't get a spot as we can't afford to keep nanny.

          • op: We're probably not moving, either! :) But I will REALLY hate it here if we don't get in. There are always preschool alternatives but hard to think that no school wanted your sweet child, you know?

    • A few years ago, the only prechool DC got into was our 5th choice (we applied to a bunch of preschools affiliated with churches and synagogues neither of which we were members). We erroneously thought it would be next to impossible to get into a good ongoing from a non-TT preschool. Fast forward a few years, DC was admitted to a couple of great ongoing schools (TT and 2nd tier). It's almost all about the child and not about which preschool they come from.

    • Yeah- I have a great feeling about 4 of the 6 schools we applied to as my ds was endearing on the playdates, but we have no connections whatsoever so that worries me. Everyone I know had someone put in word for them in one way or another- I'll be happy if one of the 4 gives us a shot.
