neither is superior but they do have academic differences. If you talk to families who are at least near the end of lower school or in middle school you will be able to parse the academic differences. In brief, Spence tends to have a more pregressive appraoch and Chapin a more traditional approach. I am not saying that Spence is a progressive school or that Chapin is full of rote learners but at the margins the schools have a different philosophy and if you are choosing between them you need to think about your dd's learning styles and fit.

wow, I did not say not rigorous. they are both very rigorous places. I said that Chapin has a more traditional focus and Spence slightly less so although they are both tradittional schools. Spence is a little more creative and Chapin a little more deliberate. They are both quite rigorous. THey have a very different style in getting there.

Their college placement is dead even and percentage wise is above Dalton and HM and a touch below Brearley and Trinity (meaning that maybe three girls will do better there). They are both top ten in the country. Distinctions between them are more about style, atmosphere and culture.
