I just started noticing a flat spot forming at the back of my 10-week-old DB's head (I suspect it's from sleeping a lot, the Gymini, and long walks in the stroller). I've decided to start wearing him in a baby wrap, but whenever I put him in it DB immediately falls asleep. Is it okay for DB to sleep upright in a baby wrap? I thought they needed to lie horizontal for the blood to circulate to their brains (but now that I try searching for this online, I can't seem to find it). Also: does DB sleeping in the wrap lead to bad sleep habits and less restful sleep (Healthy Sleep Habits recommends stationary sleep...)?

    • totally normal. don't alter sleep. discuss with ped if you're still worried at next visit. it will correct itself

      • How long does it take to correct? I just don't want it to get worse...

        • I don't remember what the timeline is, but as db skull gets harder it will correct itself. it's not going to "harden" flat, though it may get worse before it gets better. dd had a huge flat spot

          • Oh, that's good to know. Thanks. Has anyone tried neck exercises? I don't think DB has torticullis, but I'm definitely curious to see whether that might help.

            • don't know anything about neck exercises, but don't see how that would help.

    • Do you mean the baby sleeping on his/her sides. My friend, who recently had a baby, swears by this. She said the best night sleep she's had, was when she placed her baby on his side to sleep. She did out of desperation, was too scared to put him on his stomach, and bingo, she it onto something that worked. She does alternate sides and I believe there is a "baby sleeping book" which talks about "side sleeping". But I don't know the title.

      • That's interesting. Do you know if she used a sleep positioner to get him to sleep on his side? The only sleep positioners I've seen have babies on their backs with memory foam under the head...

        • She doesn't use a positioner. Simply puts the baby on his side. She does angle him a bit so he doesn't roll over. This baby would not sleep. He'd sleep a little bit in the sling but she was going bonkers from lack of sleep. When he's getting drowsy, she places him on his side, and that seems to help him fall asleep. She does check on him to make sure he hasn't rolled over on his stomach, but so far so good.

          • Do you know if the arm that lies under him is in front or behind him? I'm trying to picture how he sleeps on his side!

            • She puts his little arm under him, but sometimes she find him with his little arm sticking out. It's so cute. She just leaves him that way. Maybe he's trying to give his arm some air. Babies are so smart.

      • Ask your ped before putting DB to sleep on his side, it is a SIDS risk.
