Assuming you're short - say 5'4" - and that your DS inherits the overwhelming lion's share of your genetic encoding and his height caps out at an ineffectual 5'6", what steps will you take to ensure that he's not "that guy" - the little Napoleon who always starts bar fights at Dorian's, the little Napoleon who is always rejected on the dating scene? Will you encourage him to start a band or, God forbid, lie about his height on his online dating profile?

    • how tall is dh? how old is ds? i'm 5'4" but ds is in the 90% for height. however, he's only 2. things could change. i would try not to make a big deal about it. you could secretly do things like encourage him to play soccer rather than steer him to basketball

    • My dh is short (so am I) and isn't "that guy". He's the nicest guy -- when my mom first met him she immediately described him as a "mensch". I'm not worried about my ds. If you give a dc self-confidence, they will be fine. I think it's ridiculous to think height will be that influential in what kind of person dc turns out to be.

    • Wait, is 5'4" short? I thought it was average, in which case you could expect your son to be average - like 5'9" or so.

    • encourage his participation in athletics. Girls love that, and there are plenty of sports where height isn't that important.

    • first off 5'4 ISN'T VERY SHORT..that is average. Secondly if my son inherits my short genes so be it. He will be the great, funny, handsome short guy that all the girls love to hang out with. If he's 5'6 then he will find a great woman like his mom (who is 5'4) to have fun with

    • your attitude will be the biggest obstacle for him to overcome. Maybe he'll be tall or better yet, smart enough to stayaway from Dorian's , drinking in high school and basing his self worth on appearance.
