DD's birthday party is from 3-5. Do I have to offer any food other than drinks and cake? Signed, tired, cheap mom

    • Nope.........that is fine. However, we do put out some finger foods..cute cookies, maybe mini cupcakes, mints, nuts, etc.....

    • I always offer food. We went to a party recently at a gym and the party was from 3-5, the kid were STARVING after the workout (they are 4yr old) and they were giving cake and juice. More than one kid said what about pizza? I heard a lot of I'm hungry.

      • ^^not saying you have to have feed the adults but for the kids, have something for them to eat

      • Oh, really? Eek. Maybe I'll add some crackers and cheese. I really wanted to avoid the pizza route, but maybe some protein is in order for the hungry ones.

        • np: I would rather my dc eat pizza (or any other protein) then just fill up with sugar (cake)

        • giving them cake at 5 is what ruins dinner. that's why you need to give them a piece of pizza first!

    • you don't have to but if your party is for toddlers, then at 5pm most kids eat dinner so cheap pizza makes it a little nicer

      • Just did this. I put out 5 bowls of my dd's favorite snacks -- string cheese, clementines, pb pretzels, pirates booty, and something else along with juice boxes and water. The kids were free to snack and then I didn't feel guilty about serving cake later. I know I didn't spend more than $25 on all that.
