what exactly makes NBS 2nd tier - academics or exmissions? Thought their K-4th grade curriculum in particular seemed more academic than most of the other SS schools we saw . Just curious?

    • Exmissions. But in reality NBS and Fieldston are usually up there with some of the so-called TTs.

      • If B, S and C are analogous to HYP, NBS is a Stanford or Columbia. You should be so lucky either way.

          • why - if college placement and SATs comparable. If you call it brearley lite could be a good thing given the pressure cooker environment in upper years there.

      • Actually, NBS's SAT scores are around the same as Dalton's or Spence's. According to Petersons.com, NBS's median reading is 680 (vs Dalton's 675 and Spence's 680) and median math is 650 (vs Dalton's 670 and Spence's 680).

        • To me NBS is the same as Dalton. I don't see how Dalton can be tt and NBS 2nd tier. This is probably an UB myth that people have bought into through the years.

        • Am I missing something here? Hello? If NBS's math SAT is 650 and Dalton and Spence's is 670 and 680, it seems obvious that NBS girls are those typical girls who are strong in verbal but suck at math? If their math scores were high enough, they would have gotten into B,C, S or Dalton. Still want to argue that NBS is tt?

          • your logic sucks. Firstly, 650 does not warrant a "suck at math" its a great score. And how do you test for math scores at age 5 to get into B, C, S, or Dalton. All these schools are comparable in SAT scores and they all go to more or less the same schools so who cares at the end of the day. I highly doubt UB 2nd tier rating of NBS is b/c of 30 pts in a math score. (and no I don't go to NBS but the stats are all similar...)

    • We thought it was just as strong as B/C/S when we went through the process last year. DD didn't get in there and did get into one of B/C/S and so that's where she goes. But we really didn't think the curriculum or the girls were any weaker at NBS. (We did think the admissions office there was sort of a mess, though.)
