Just wondering, I've seen a bunch of twins applying to private schools for K (at our playdates and tour etc). Do schools typically look at twins as a "package" and accept or reject together or is each child totally individually assessed? If one twin is a stronger applicant, how do they decide? Is being a twin considered "interesting" and helpful at all, or does it just make getting in even harder? I assume that most twin parents want their kids at the same school? I am sort of in awe of anyone doing this process for 2 at the same time!

    • LOLOLOLOL!!!! "Is being a twin considered "interesting""?!??!? Have you seen the number of IVF twins in this city? Why would they be interesting? Twins are considered a package if YOU tell the schools you won't separate them.

      • Do you have twins applying? Honestly, I've never really noticed a lot of twins my dc's age until applying for K!

      • Just FYI, a lot of twins are not IVF. There are a lot of twins born to older mothers as well (more likely as we approach 40). My niece and nephew are an example of this! :)

        • I know AMA moms have more twins. I also know a lot of women in NYC have IVF. ALL the twins I know who applied 2 years ago were IVF.

        • Why is this, medically?

    • Twin mom here: my DC are now in 1st grade. Both were "strong" applicants -- but PSD warned us that it might be tough (it's not "interesting" to have twins). Accepted early as legacies -- was a big, big relief. Had to go on a lot of "double" interviews and school visits (and it was nice to focus on DC as individuals) -- I joked with my boss that he was going to have to start docking my pay.

    • I'm watching this thread because I am one of the people applying with twins. Any BTDT twin parents out there want to share their experiences? Did you get both kids into one school? Thanks!

      • Am going thru this process with twins too. Has been a nightmare. What chance do we have when people with only one child are worried about getting their kid in? Can any BTDT share their experiences and any advice would be great. Thx!

        • Same twin mom as above: What will you do if SO? I'm not holding my breath for citywide G&T (2 kids getting 99 seems like a longshot to say the least, although they did very well on ERB so who knows?) Our district G&T has only one class and I don't want them in the same class from K-5. Feeling kind of boxed in here. GL to you!

          • NP: Not that this will make you feel a whole lot better but, I am not sure that both twins would need to score 99 to get both into citywide. I am speculating here, but if the DOE applied the sibling policy to incoming twins, then all you need is one 99 and one 97 or above. The 99'er will bring in the lower scoring twin, provided the lower score is 97 or above. Again, you should check with DOE about this, but I think this is what they would do.

            • I've actually been trying to get a clear answer on that, and also whether we can apply out of district for regular G&T to try to have them in different G&T classrooms. I obviously need to wait to see their OLSAT scores and if we get into any privates before I go too far down that path.
