Anyone successfully apply off-year (grades 2-5) and get into a 1st or 2nd tier in recent years? If so, when did dc get the offer - Feb/March or later in the spring/summer? We're in public now and prepared to wait it out, but would love to know when attrition movement usually happens. Thanks!

    • Would love to know as well. We are applying for an off year this yar. ISAAGNY deadline for acceptance letters (off-year) to be sent out is February 4th. We have done two interviews, so expect some feedback then. We applied to 4 other schools - haven't even seen them yet.

      • OR here: if dc gets accepted to any schools now, we won't even bother with schools who reply or w/l outside of admissions season. We are already exhausted from school visits and absences from current school. Plus, the schools that we've gotten a chance to interview with are 1st choics anyway

            • thank you. I am waiting (probably in vain) to hear from Trinity, ECFS and 2 SS. Did the schools you interviewed with give you any indication of weather they actually had spots or not.

              • I think you should wait it out. Rumour is that it's a very good year for off-year apps, as attrition will increase due to some families being unabe to afford fees.

              • Sorry lost other post. I think you should stick it out and see. Off-year apps may move faster off waitlist due to increased attrition rate

              • Yes 2 of the three I listed above were sure they would have spaces. One for 3rd (due to October bday) and one for 4th grade

          • OP here: Also applying to 3rd grade. We have interviewed at 2 of those 6 listed below. Don't want to out myself - I'm not sure how many of us there are this year - but will say that ECFS/FL is among those we haven't heard from and we've applied to no SS. The 2 schools we interviewed with so far were still not sure of spaces (1 interviews everybody who applies, 1 was interviewing "just in case" b/c they're not sure what to expect in this year's economy). Between the lines, both told us to expect to be WL on Feb 4th b/c they weren't optimistic they would know anything by then. Do you know when contracts are due back at any of these schools? We tried to ask that tactfully, but maybe we were too tactful - since we didn't get a straight answer! We have a clear 1st choice that we interviewed with and seemed to go well. But I don't know if we let an acceptance elsewhere go just to stay WL at our 1st choice. I just hope something works out and we're not doing all this again next year!!

            • Someone on here wrote that contracts in their school were due at end of February. Don't know whether other isaagny schools follow this as well. I was given assurance for the two schools we interviewed with. One had openings (extra spaces added) - one due to attrition.

              • Thank you so much for mentioning! So it sounds like it may be March before we have a chance of knowing anything ... we've applied nowhere that adds extra spaces at our grade, so we're solely looking at attrition openings.

              • Reply date is February 23 and they notify You Feb 4th. So that should not be an issue.

                • Yes, but if they still don't know about openings - but otherwise like dc - all Feb 4th will bring is formal acceptance to the WL. That's why some schools like ECFS don't even pretend to follow the ISAAGNY guidelines.

                  • But generally schools do not interview you unless they know there will be openings.

                    • We thought that too - and that is our FC school's stated, official policy. But this year, they told us they had decided to interview a few students for each grade "just in case" b/c they have no idea what is going to happen in terms of attrition. I think it's a good sign we were asked to interview, but they were clear they didn't think they'd know their situation by Feb 4.

        • Where did you iterview? Did they know how many openings they might have? We are considering it for next year.

        • np: I think she means on the Feb 4th date, she'll hear accept, ding, or WL. Since she interviewed at a couple places that actually knew of openings already, there's a good chance an accept or two will end her process Feb 5 or 6th :)
