Dd's birthday party was today and after she opened up the gifts (after the party at home), it seems there's one unaccounted for. I'm sure the child would have brought a gift but I can't find it. What should I do?

        • So they get a note saying thanks for showing up, but not for their gift?

    • Do you know the parents well enough to ask - if they gave one it will be rude if you don't send a thank you but yet you can't send a thank you without knowing what they gave you!

      • there is my dilemma. I know the family but not really well enough to feel comfortable asking.

      • I've had parents e-mail me to ask what we gave their dc (tags and cards fall off sometimes). No big deal.

    • I did this (assumed it had gone astray and sent TQ note) and it turned out the mom forgot (did not bother) to send a gift with her kid for the party. And she was really mad at me.

    • I had the same thing last year - very affluent family's gift was missing. Asked two different good friends who had invited the kid the prior year and found out that they didn't give them one either. Some people just don't...

      • ^^And FWIW, we only received thank you notes for our gifts from about 1/2 of the parties that we attended.
