Can we discuss the parent body at Collegiate vs. at Dalton? Just curious. Collegiate more waspy and Dalton more Jewish? Dalton more striving and Collegiate more established? Dalton more diverse, I know. This is what's I've read here so far. What do you think?

    • I would think the Collegiate parent body has more money (only know 2 families but they have big bucks). At Little Dalton now and no one in DC's class seems like big money. Not as many Jewish families as you would think - lots of multicultural families - diverse not just in the AA/Latino way - but parents from everywhere under the sun. Sounds weird but the vibe at Little Dalton is laid back. No one I have met is striving for anything that I can detect.

      • ITA, the "striving" label is UB bitterness.

        • np; not sure about big dalton, but at little dalton, it's a very relaxed, laid back atmosphere... I do think the parents are Collegiate are better dressed and try harder in terms of physical appearance. I have yet to see big money at Dalton. I'm sure there are some but either they hide it well or there are very few.

          • How many people do you know at Collegiate. Well dressed is not a common issue there.

          • nnp -- i'm another Dalton parent and have found the school community to be very easy-going, welcoming, unpretentious, low-key. there IS some big money, but it lies mostly below the radar screen because the school isn't a "conspicuous consumption" environment AT ALL.

    • I think "established" is code for WASPy, and "striving" is code for Jewish.

    • I am a Collegiate mom and I can't really help you with Dalton, I think your comments on C are a bit off. It is not Waspy at all and we find it fairly diverse. I think the biggest difference have more to do with the size of the school and the single sex vs. co-ed enviroment. Collegiate is significantly more intimate than Dalton which can either be good or bad for your child.

      • Thank you! Do you know if they have plans to renovate at all? How is their theater program? Do boys have to be great athletes to fit in? Not from NY and trying to get my arms around all of this.
