  • I am seeking a pediatrician for my newborn. This person needs to be in Manhattan (ideally downtown) and must be open to my concerns about vaccinations (I may decide against them) and my holistic approach to raising my daughter. Can you help?

    • Don't know anyone downtown, sorry. But just a word of advice legally you can't decide against all vaccines! In order to go to daycare, pre-school, kindergarden etc your child will have to have some vaccines.

    • I'm sure you are perfectly nice-but already you sound like a nightmare and irresponsible.

      • NP -- agreed. My ped has an autistic son and is 100% pro vaccination. Cannot imagine a good doctor thinking skipping vaccinations is a good idea, though certainly a good doctor WILL explain their thinking and why they feel that way. Also if you want a dr to support that you will try to raise your kid in a healthy manner, great -- if you're like the nut job I met who took her 6 week old to the chiro instead of a regular dr for a checkup, I doubt any ped will go for that.

    • you will be hard pressed to find a legitimate pediatrician who will be supportive of not vaccinating your dc. This is against stardard of care.

    • The best ped for your child will be open to your concerns and intentions for your child's best care and development. This should include support and information relating to vaccinations, creating schedules that may be more in line with your beliefs and concerns, offering possibilities for 'unbundling' some of the 'scarier' ones and directing you to important sources of good info. Holistic doesn't mean that we should run away from alopathy in total. The trend toward vaccination 'abstinence' is surely rearing ugly heads of otherwise preventable illnesses and should be thoroughly explored by you-as part of your holistic intent. GL

    • did anyone watch private practice wednesday? I know its just a tv show but i think it would make anyone think about not vaccinating their children. It also bothers me to know that people aren't doing it because it puts other children at risk..

      • With that said, I have a family member who has two autistic sons and is convinced its due to MMR although no research supports this. My ped did spread out his vaccines a bit because I was concerned.

    • If you are still on, go on Mothering.com to the forums ("Finding your tribe"). There is a NY board with lots of anti-vaccine moms exchanging info on ped's. I also recommend the Sears book on vaccines. It's not pro- or anti- particularly and is very informative. There are peds who fit your needs here but probably not that take your insurance.

    • Try tribeca pediatrics. Some of their drs are DO's (which I find moro open to suggestions)

    • I hope you find a ped who can actually educate you about the public health reasons for vaccinations.
