Whats you guys take, he did spend over 5 mins with the plumber... This really worries me and I am a big supporter of Obama..Conservatives yesterday ripped Obama after he was caught on video telling an Ohio plumber that he intends to take the profits of small-business owners and "spread the wealth around" to those with lesser incomes. The fracas over Obama's tax plan broke out Sunday outside Toledo when Joe Wurzelbacher approached the candidate. Wurzelbacher said he planned to become the owner of a small plumbing business that will take in more than the $250,000 amount at which Obama plans to begin raising tax rates. "Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn't it?" the blue-collar worker asked. After Obama responded that it would, Wurzelbacher continued: "I've worked hard . . . I work 10 to 12 hours a day and I'm buying this company and I'm going to continue working that way. I'm getting taxed more and more while fulfilling the American Dream." It's not that I want to punish your success," Obama told him. "I want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they've got a chance for success, too. Then, Obama explained his trickle-up theory of economics. "My attitude is that if the economy's good for folks from the bottom up, it's gonna be good for everybody. I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody." Critics said Obama let the cat out of the bag. "It's clear that his main goal is redistribution of wealth, not growth," said Andy Roth with the anti-tax group Club for Growth. "He's perfectly happy to destroy wealth as long as he can redistribute it." Obama has been meticulous, Roth said, to conceal the "socialistic" nature of his tax plans. "But every once in a while, he lets it slip," he said.
56 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]do you really think that taxes won't go up with either person as POTUS? They will and the % of small business don't make over 250k..so it will be a small % to get the tax hike. Obama said this the other night in the debate
[ Reply | Options ]totally agree, taxes are going to go up. Period. Just depends on where you want the biggest hit. I vote for people making over 250K.

i like obama but i don't know if i'm going to vote for him. his belief that "wealth" (i use that term loosely given that anyone making over 250K is "superwealthy") should be redistributed is pretty blatant, and i'm not a fan of that.
[ Reply | Options ]Sorry but every government redistributes wealth. Would you prefer to give tax breaks to huge profitable corporations?
[ Reply | Options ]me to .. We've earned all the money we have a two income family and make 250 combined... we are not superwealthy.. I worked my ass off and went through public school and public college..I would also like to leave my childern money with out having to give 55% to the goverment of 80% if you included the tax we already paid on it..
[ Reply | Options ]OP> Maybe I am a classist, I am fine paying a little more tax.. but I am not fine on him trying to limit the american dream and cut out small family business from being passed down or even farms that will be taxed so much by the estate tax that they will have to sell.. these days its not hard as a small biz to have a 1mil in equity or wealth to pass down..

If my wife and I die on December 31, 2010, my daughters won't pay any estate taxes. Not one nickel. If I die a day later it will cost my kids 55% of my assets. The IRS wants its money, in cash, 9 months and a day later. If my assets are tied up in a business, a private equity fund, real estate, or sundry other illiquid "investments," the IRS will still insist on its cash. Which means my assets will be put up for a fire sale and the penalty of dying could be much higher -- perhaps over 100%. In which case the only "inheritance" my kids will get will be a whopping tax bill. The name of the game is get one's assets away from the IRS now. That will save the taxes now on the principal and the appreciation between now and when you die. Figure you have a $10 million net worth now. Die today, you could get zapped with taxes of $4.4 million -- that's after the $2 million deduction. But die in ten years, when even with our

If he makes over $250 K (this is after overhead, etc, this is PROFIT) then tax away. I don't care what color his collar is if he makes $250 k per year. And keep in mind, with a weak dollar and rising inflation, inflation will act like a hidden tax unless we make it less hidden by taxing outright (and thus paying off the debt and leading to a stronger dollar). Inflation eats into everyone's buying power, the poor spend more of their income on basics like food, it will hit the poor and elderly harder (because elderly are on a fixed income). We need to address this debt or inflation will spiral and address it for us by inflating away our debt- and everyone's buying power with it.
[ Reply | Options ]we have this problem because of the hand out country we are.. We all start of with the chance for 12 years of free education...
[ Reply | Options ]well I have worked hard and got rhough school on scholarships, have a masters degree, and I make less than that. So no problem with taxing the lucky few more. I do pay taxes, and I don't think it's exactly communist Russia for me to get a cut a this "poor blue collar plumber" to get a tax increase if he makes over $250- which is a ton of $$$$$$$$$. And if you think thats unfair, did you hear McCain actually say that we must keep SS as is for current retirees but cut it for future retirees- now how is that not some kind of cross generational socialit swap? Or are you too old to care?

When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
