Just from what I've vaguely seen here I think that it's good & def above average but not 100% certain that it will be above the cut off

well, they had the cutoff from last year listed as minimally 142-145 but the thing is that they are taking a lot fewer kids to round 2 this year and also with sum scored totals rather than percentage scores, the list will be much more refined as well

yes - and hope and pray - and so something else because you'll drive yourself INSANE if you stay here till then! good luck...
[ Reply | Options ]Thank you! Yes gotta focus on something else for now. Do I let ds know how excited we are or just tell him good job or not even mention?
[ Reply | Options ]if I were you I wouldn't even mention but just give him all the hugs and pride you are feeling because they always appreciate that
[ Reply | Options ]Thanks - hugs and ice cream for sure, and if he asks why I'll say because he is smart and good and we love him and are proud of him, no mention of test.
[ Reply | Options ]don't say because he is smart. egads. I see a long road of psychotherapy ahead for this kid

no. I have a dc at hunter. I think if she bursts on the scene offering ice cream and tells the kid it is because he is smart, he will not know where its coming from, but he will start to see his self worth as being valued in his mother;s eyes as coming from being smart. most smart kids know they are smart. the parents need to watch being overly invested in the kid's smarts so that he doesn't over invest in that as the major way to have his parents love him. she should not make her kid aware of her own selfish investment in him if she can help it, and she should not make him so aware of the school process.
[ Reply | Options ]also, what f that score doesn't make the cutoff? then OP will look at her son in a negative light if she is too invested. she will feel bitter looking at the kids who do, feeling they couldn't be superior, but thinking they might be, and on and on. see it here every year. op needs to be pleased, a bit proud, but not too invested, and certainly not show it to her dc
[ Reply | Options ]OP here. I'm definitely pleased and proud, and like I said above I will NOT mention the test or score or anything to ds. He doesn't know what the test was for, never asked follow up questions, does not connect the test to schools or anything like that. I see nothing wrong in telling a smart kid he is smart. When he does puzzles well or figures out something I often tell him good job, what a smart boy. It won't be the first time he hears it.

unfortunately, yes. we all have to wait until everyone has taken the test. round 2 invite letters will go out in december. but you are most likely going to get one. congrats!

Congratulations, great score! Don't listen to the mean spirited responder above.

that was last year. most likely they will up the cutoff in order to take fewer dcs for round 2. you never know, though. i would assume dc did not make the cutoff and then be pleasantly surprised.
[ Reply | Options ]np: @ years ago cutoff equivalent was 142... last year it was equivalent to 145. They changed to scaled scores this year because they want FEWER kids than last year. So it seems unlikely that the cutoff will be below 145 this year. Most likely higher... especially since more kids are probably taking the test this year, given Hunter's ascending popularity and the economy's potential impact on people's interest in paying for private school. So 144, while an amazing score, will very likely not make the Round 2 cutoff. But you should be proud nonetheless!

UrbanBaby Asks...
When I ride in a taxi cab with my DC I:
- Use a carseat
- Buckle him/her in his/her own seat
- Hold him/her on my lap
- I'd never ride in a taxi with my DC, it's much too dangerous!
