  • We preferred Anderson over Hunter. Live on the UWS, could never connect with the idea of Hunter. I know the idea of a k-12 is appealing, but it just didn't seem better otherwise. didn't get either, but thought I'd chime in.

      • many posts comparing hunter and G&T. dc is at private. scored 99s on erb/sb and not selected for either school (w/l at anderson), but I believe we would have chosen anderson over hunter. just a different view. I understand that people who want public see hunter as the top school, but we felt anderson was a better fit for dc and our family

    • many people I know like the vibe at anderson better, but because of the k-12 aspect would have picked hunter. both are great schools bt they have different characters. some people like one over the other just like with any school out there, including privates.

      • I have never met anyone who got into Hunter and Anderson and went Anderson. Hunter mom here. Anderson is Great! Hunter is even better and 1-12. If your kid can't handle hunter that is a different story. It is not for everyone BUT than your child shouldn't go to Anderson either.

        • np: I doubt there are any kids who couldn't handle hunter at anderson.

          • not sure? Most certainly. I have friends with one kid at each. They personally wouldn't want their more sensitive dc at Hunter. We love Hunter but not for everyone! Not about what you can handle but how you handle it.

        • You cannot really compare the two populations because not everyone who applied for G&T also applied to Hunter -- remember, there are kids from all 5 boroughs in G&T and only Manhattan residents at Hunter.

    • ITA we preferred Anderson as well. We ended choosing private FWIW.

    • For me the lack of DOE interference at Hunter was as big a draw as the K-12 aspect. But to each her own.

      • sure, but the actual day to day experience at school seemed better for our dc at anderson.

        • np - What's the difference in the experience? Seems pretty similar to me.

          • They are both great. Not putting your particular DC in the mix Hunter is the better school and no one really debates that (many families at Hunter have kids at Anderson...they all want their kids at Hunter but they didn't get in. They are also all happy with Anderson and realize why their dc didn't get in). Hunter is a different breed of kid. Not better or worse but different. Why everyone argues it I don't know. Harvard is better than UNC but both great schools. Both hard to get into. Harvard is better.
