So my Dad asks me what I think of Gov. Palin. And I say that, while I do admire her spunk, I disagree with her policies and I think she's a bit of a nutjob to have tried to have a librarian fired for refusing to ban books. Dad's response? "So you've bought the whole package the media has sold you." I give up. There is no reasonable response to this.

yes, she did ask the librarian if some books could be withdrawn because of being offensive; no, they couldn’t; yes she did threaten to fire the librarian a month later; no, that wasn’t over the books thing but instead over administrative issues; no, the librarian wasn’t fired either; yes, the librarian was a big supporter of one of her political opponents; yes, the librarian was also the girlfriend of the Chief of police who Palin did fire for lying to the city council; no, this is not the first time in the history of civilization that someone has been threatened with being fired over a political dispute

i can't believe there are ppl out there esp women who think she is a good candidate for vice presidency. if mccain/palin are elected, that is going to send women backwards after all our progress without using our sexuality !

this is a well-known fact to anyone who reads ANYTHING else but the NYT. Writing in Thursday’s Investor’s Business Daily, author William Tate documents that campaign donations from employees of big media companies are tilting 100-to-1 in favor of the Democrats so far this election cycle. That’s right, 100-to-1.

OP: this is exactly the problem I have discussing this with my Dad. He has no facts to support his opinions because the media is not to be trusted and has an "agenda". As I've said to him, I'm a liberal and believe me, the media is not putting forth my point-of-view in the news.

[ Reply | Options ]She is a driven, competitive woman. She has succeeded in a mostly-male field. She is well-spoken and can obviously be charming. Having said all of that, I disagree with almost all of her policies and think she is another bible-thumping nutjob. The type that says that gay marriage is wrong because it says so in the bible, but conveniently ignores other biblical edicts like not working on the Sabbath, etc. I said spunky to my Dad because I was trying to pave the way to a hopefully reasonable conversation by acknowledging her strong points. Clearly, it wasn't worth my effort.

how about the fact that not only did she try to get any science books pulled from the library that mentioned evolution but in the schools as well. She is a religious zealot who was quoted in church just a few weeks ago stating that the war is gods plan and that GWB is carrying out God's plan and that the democrats are fighting God's will...YIKES

Agree, some people are name calling Palin. Some are just worried about her politics. I don't know if liking someone b/c half the country hates her is such a great reason to like someone. Maybe you admire someone who provokes this much antipathy and anger, b/c you have a hard time being as confrontational as you would like in your own life? Anyway, GL to you and our country, whoever wins in November!
