wohm due in 8 weeks - our dept had baby shower/lunches for other colleagues who had babies in last year, but nobody has said anything about a shower for me. should i assume one way or another? should i ask?

of course you don't ask - that is crazy! if they throw you a shower, that is nice. if they don't, they don't.
[ Reply | Options ]You may not be getting one, but if it's "office protocol," chances are good that they'll have one for you soon. FWIW, my office planned mine for 3 weeks before my due date & I gave birth 3 weeks early! I spent about 1 second wondering "are they having one for me?" but then it didn't even matter.
